Great Keyword Research Matters… A lot.
February 16th, 2012Misguided and/or uneducated keyword research is becoming too common in the SEO space, in fact, it’s causing a lot of confusion and trouble for a lot of small businesses who do not fully understand the fundamentals behind educated keyword research.
Free tools like Google’s Keyword Tool External offer a simplistic approach to keyword research, but when used wrong, inaccurate information can be passed down to the client, let me explain.
There is a BIG difference between phrase match, exact match and broad match and by default, Google has ‘Exact match’ selected, a mistake most amateur SEOs do when performing research.
Here’s an example – Denver Skin Treatments
The keyword “Denver Skin Treatments” has virtually no search volume so why do so many ‘SEOs’ still attack that keyword? The mythology behind keyword research is interesting, read the rest of the article here: http://www.seanhakes.com/2012/02/16/denver-skin-treatments-why-proper-keyword-research-matters/

When I published the article titled “Yodle Organic Shows Promise for Small Business Owners,” I was excited about the idea of a cost-effective SEO-like solution for small business.

Bing Introduces New Deals Service
October 13th, 2011Although Bing is not in first place in the search engine industry, it continues to thrive and introduce new products. Most recently, it has introduced a daily deals email service.
Recent ComScore data for the month of September was released that details how much market share each major search engine has. Google, still at the top of the list, has a whopping 65.3% of the industry, while Bing and Yahoo make up the rest. Unlike Yahoo, Bing is continuing to offer new products and will likely capture more market share going forward.
Bing’s most competitive product on market is its “Deals” program. The company initially introduced the program through third party mobile content and then moved forward with a retail focused product called Bing Shopping. This program finds products on the internet and provides detailed information such as product images, pricing, description and more. They also launched a complimentary cashback program with Bing Shopping to try to keep consumers interested. Unfortunately, many people still prefer to use Google Shopping.
Now, as part of a new strategy, Bing is rolling out a program that sends emails on a daily basis called Bing Deals. The program is powered by Tippr, a while label deals service that has found great success in offering deals. The drawback that Bing may face with this new program is that anyone who uses the service must sign up using a Windows email or Facebook. With so many mail services now available and Windows Live being the old norm, people will be required to sign up for the service through their personal Facebook account. It is unknown at this point whether deals and products people purchase will be exposed through Facebook’s news feed. This has caused some concern among consumers, but no data has been provided yet.
Similar to many daily deals services, Bing Deals will offer 50%-90% off for local business services. Local businesses have began using deal services to attract new customers and to retain existing customers. With a larger brand such as Bing, it is likely customers will have a higher response and will use the service.
Many local Denver business owners are now asking what a service like this can do for their business and how it will help them grow. On the side of web marketing, a deals service like Bing Deals will provide more traffic to your website and ultimately, more conversions. In turn, this will also help with a company’s search engine marketing strategy by helping with rankings. Any Denver SEO company will recommend this service, among other marketing services. Check out Bing Deals for your local business!

Integrated Site Maps on Google Results?
August 16th, 2011Googling a few local businesses this morning, we found what could be a new development in the way Google lists certain results:
What appears to be a mini sitemap of the most popular pages associated with the site is especially startling, due to the way it pushes the rest of the first page results off of the screen. Right now, it seems like this display of results only appears when the actual name of the business is being searched for, rather than generic keywords associated with the business. If this becomes a standard way of displaying results for any given search query (from the specific to the generic) it could have a huge impact on SEO, local Internet marketing, and even web design & development. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this development.

Has Google Finally Penalized RipOffReport.com?
August 9th, 2011I just noticed that the once largely popular rant board has been taken out of Google search results – is this something temporary or has Google finally followed the steps of Yahoo and Bing and significantly downgraded the authority RipOffReport.com…?
